Design Futures Project

Design Futures

Project Brief
For this project, I was given the task to create a poster of how the future would look like from 2021 and onward based on the trends and technologies around us. The goal is to use a design style from the past and combine it with the contemporary design into a unique design for the poster. Once we I pick the design style I want to use for my poster, I was given the choice to pick one color for this project to use a long with the color black for the Riso printer. The finished poster must be 11 in x 17 in duo colors (black + another color).

Process

Concept
Before creating my poster, I collected twelve images (six images of surrealism and six images of contemporary design) as references to use for my sketching process. I created twenty thumbnails of my posters with different composition and designs then I pick my top two sketches to show to my peers to see which one is close to my vision of my future poster. Once I gathered feedback from them, I used the one that they like and moved on to the next step of this project: drafting and revisions.
Drafts and Revisions
In this step, I took my sketch and refined it a bit more with designs as well editing it based on the feedback I received from my peers. Once I finished with the changes, I added screen tone to the sketch in greyscale with the color green (the color I picked for this project). The first draft in the middle was to illustrate my idea of what my final poster would look like to my peers while adding in an important detail that final poster will be in a collage of images and drawings rather than a full illustration. I began working refining my draft to a polish version after hearing the critique for my first draft. It took some time to get images needed for my poster but in the end, I managed to get it where I need it to be which you can see below.
Final
The flat image of the poster
This is the final poster for this project. This is not an accurate representation of what it looks like if it was printed in real life, but it does help visualize how the poster would look like in 3D space (see above).
